Launched in 2001 Fucking Awesome is the brainchild of skateboarder Jason Dill. Later joined by fellow skater Anthony Van Engelen, the brand has gained cult status through their DIY approach. To understand Fucking Awesome, you need to understand Jason Dill. A mastermind in skateboarding, Dill spent his days of the late ‘90s becoming familiar in and around downtown New York, shooting videos with Alien Workshop. His experimental and creative lifestyle landed him alongside Mike Piscitelli, to which they started to mess around with clothing, creating graphic design t-shirts for the skating natives of the city, including the early Supreme crew. His successes are difficult to understate, but a tempestuous childhood and personal addictions have made his rise to skater fame rather abnormal. FA has been one of his most perplexing ventures - exonerating his life’s unconventionalities through controversial screen printed tees and skateboard decks. Fucking Awesome has always played on the idea of American dystopia, fallen heroes and supposed ‘icons’. Old graphics had featured Muhammed Ali boxing with Superman, world dictators, and various images of graphic violence that, in Dills’ mind, mirrored the realities of life.
